Alex stood there, his head lowered, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned pale. He couldn’t hear the words anymore—the sentences felt like they were tearing him apart from within.
Please…” he murmured hoarsely. “Let me say goodbye to Rex… He’s all I have left. I don’t have a family anymore.”
A murmur rippled through the room. The judge glanced at the prosecutor, his frown deepening. After a brief pause, he gave a small nod. Moments later, the door creaked open, and in walked Rex—the German Shepherd, with eyes that seemed more human than many people’s.
